October 2007

The first ever Gin and Whores party, a celebration of the dark side of Victorian London was a resounding success. It was held on the 13th October 2007 at the Salisbury pub on St Martin's Lane, which is a proper, gorgeously decorated gin palace.

Gin and Whores was THE BEST PARTY EVER! Thank you so much to everyone that came - you were all fabulous and looked amazing and it was just brilliant! :) I am at my most amiable when I have had about three or four gins so was doubly aimable last night. I think I probably said Terrible Things to a few people (Helen! Linds! Mr Saiira! Matthew!) but can't really remember. There was loads of cake thanks to Hester! Thank you! I made a chocolate birthday cake for Lisa, with crystallised violets all over the top, which was apparently quite nice as well. :) Anyway, it was all just excellent and we are definitely doing it all again next year (only in a much bigger room with its own bar and with a window and also probably a DJ or maybe a band and yes). ;) I wish I could remember all the things that had me shrieking with laughter. A Z Lister was asked to leave by Mel! I couldn't stop talking to Thermaland in a Papa Lazarou voice! There were fortune tellers! The atheist and I sang along to 'This Ain't A Scene' by Fall Out Boy! There was cake drama! There were bemused townies! I really thought Simon was going to stab me! Mr and Mrs Pinny gave me a bottle of Hendrick's gin! No one cried on the stairs! Alex Mocktor was there! I made Lindsay pretend to be my husband for extremely obscure reasons! Joza had a bustle! People talked about the difficulties of finding a good school! Tom did the Jack the Ripper card trick! Scott and Poggs flirted! Saiira and Matthew bought us a rug as a present! There was chocolate! And violets! And scary interloping men! Krys had a cut throat! Everyone wanted to touch the Touch - especially Tammy and Matt! Jane is fabulous and knew the Humms (including the elusive Simon Humm, who probably wasn't going to ask me out at all but had instead probably developed some sort of Oedipal complex about me)! Mrs Moral Vacuum is The Beautiful Lady With Red Hair! Thank you to Alison and Tom for letting us stay with them and being so lovely. Thank you to everyone for the lovely presents and for, oh, everything!

I will allow the photographic evidence of that evening's events speak for themselves. Thank you to Sarah, Ed, Tom, Alison, Joza and Steve for the wonderful photos.

Roll on the next one in Spring 2008!
